Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage
The successful design competition celebrates the Jewish experience in Northeast Ohio in an elegant, iconic home for a remarkable collection of Judaica and traveling exhibitions. A simple rectangle form houses main exhibits and auditorium and is accessed from a lobby accentuated by floor to ceiling glass. With minimalist simplicity, excellent materials and craftsmanship, the building is clad with Jerusalem limestone, evoking the texture of ancient city walls. Adjacent to temple and school, the site for the museum and outdoor courtyard expresses a symbolic identity. Substantial earthwork carves a distinct, protected precinct of building and landscape drawing the temple into its realm.
