Westlake Reed Leskosky Announces Appointment Of Angela Mazzi, AIA, Ncarb Associate Principal And Director Of Healthcare Programming And Planning
CLEVELAND, OHIO (August 2008) – Nationally recognized architecture/engineering firm Westlake Reed Leskosky has promoted Angela Mazzi, AIA, NCARB to Associate Principal and Director of Healthcare Programming and Planning.
The appointment recognizes Ms. Mazzi's achievements in healthcare architecture, her emphasis on understanding of the mission and operational goals of a healthcare organization, and her approach involving stakeholder and user groups in planning, programming, and design. She will lead the healthcare programming and planning effort, and, in addition to her project involvement, will focus on research and staff development, further cultivating the firm's expertise in healthcare.
Ms. Mazzi will collaborate with Westlake Reed Leskosky's practice leaders in the creative direction for all healthcare projects. She will work with Philip LiBassi, AIA, ACHA, Principal and national healthcare practice leader, and Rebecca C. Olson, AIA, LEEDTM AP, Associate Principal, and director of healthcare in the firm's Phoenix, Arizona office to continue to develop the firm's national healthcare practice.
Angela Mazzi's philosophy of socio-cultural design and user interaction, as well as community advocacy and leadership, earned her the Young Architect Citation in 2001 from AIA Arizona. She is a published author of research papers and articles that address design as a source of cultural identity, and has presented internationally on healthcare topics and the value of originality in healing environments.
Since joining Westlake Reed Leskosky in 2003, Ms. Mazzi's healthcare experience has included Cleveland Clinic's Euclid Hospital emergency department expansion; new surgery facilities for Salem Community Hospital in Ohio, a Green Guide for Healthcare pilot project; and the new Digestive Wellness Clinic in Norton, Ohio. Current work for Cleveland Clinic in Ohio includes a major expansion for Hillcrest Hospital and for its Twinsburg campus, both designed for LEED certification.
She is currently the chair of the Government Affairs Committee for AIA Cleveland, and has served as chair of the City of Phoenix Housing and Neighborhoods Commission, the Land Use Committee and the Executive Committee for Valley Forward Association of Arizona. Ms. Mazzi is serving on the advisory board for the Healthcare Design Initiative, a program based in the College of Design that focuses on integrating evidence-based design, sustainable science and best practices benchmarks for healthcare planning that is part of Arizona State University.
Ms. Mazzi has been involved in programs aimed at educating members of a community on design principles and working with them to advocate for better development. She has been an instructor for architectural education outreach programs with grade school and high school students, and has conducted Urban Design and Architecture workshops with the residents of Central City South in Phoenix's downtown.
She received her Master of Architecture from the University of Arizona (1995) and her Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie-Mellon University (1993) with minors in Architecture History and Industrial Management.
